  • to France July 1915; on the 21st of August 1916 he was sent for flight training at No.1 School of Military Aeronautics and was posted to 26 Reserve Squadron and 18 Reserve Squadron.
    On the 26th of October 1916 he was appointed as a Flying Officer and seconded for service to the Royal Flying Corps before being joining 6 Squadron at the front on the 1st of November 1916 as an Observer.
    Promoted to Acting Lieutenant on the 1st of February 1917, a rank which was confirmed on 11th of March 1917 and was antedated to the 1st of June 1916.

Death

  • Artillery patrol, air collision of the RE8 A4198 with A4594 , at 6000 feet; Brodie was the pilot, Lt. Alexander Ian McKimmie the observer, also killed and buried in Lijssenthoek; Captain Walter Llewellyn Clark and 2nd Lt. Harry Stanley Diment, observer, also crashed and died; they are buried in Lijssenthoek;
