- Geoffrey Hepworth Frischling's family were of German Bavarian descent, known to be living in Westphalia at the beginning of the 19th century. His grandfather Carl Joseph emigrated to England in April 1849. Geoffrey was the son of Frank and Ruby Blanche Hepworth (from Australia) born in Shanghai, but British by birth. He had a sister, Barbara Joyce and a brother, Frank. What is very unusual is that 2nd. Lt. Geoffrey Hepworth Frischling kept his German surname whilst serving in the British Army during WW1.
