MC 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in two occasion, in entering a dug-out which had been wrecked by hostile shell fire, extricating the victims and carrying them to
the dressing station, three hundred yards
away, under heavy and continuous shell fire.
By this prompt and gallant action he and his
N.C.O. were the direct means of saving many
lives, as the place was again hit directly after
his work was completed. He has frequently
proved himself an extremely gallant officer,
with an utter disregard for danger when
assisting others.(London Gazette, September 1917)
