- DCM for 'Conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. When part of the advance was held up by heavy rifle fire he went to flank, and shot seven of the enemy and completely broke up their resistance. During the consolidation he inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy by sniping. He showed splendid courage and initiative' (London Gazette, 4 March 1918)
