- Joining the Artists' Rifles at the outbreak of war, he was gazetted to the Middlesex Regiment in December, 1914. Subsequently he was transferred to the R.F.C., and obtained his pilot's certificate in February, 1916. He was promoted to Captain in November, 1916.
Death
- Artillery patrol; air collision of RE8 A4594 with A4198, 6000 feet, nose dive, wrecked; the observer, HS Diment, was also killed and buried in Lijssenthoek; Lt. Brodie and Lt. McKimmie also crashed and died; they are buried in Lijssenthoek;
