- To France 30 September 1915 ; awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal during the Battle of the Somme. Announced in the London Gazette of 21st December 1916, for his actions at Dewdrop Trench on 28th October 1916 : “ For conspicuous gallantry in action. He showed marked courage and skill in the capture of a strong point, which contained a machine gun and was causing many casualties.” Awarded the Military Medal announced in the London Gazette of 18th June 1917 for his actions at the battle of Arras on 23rd April 1917.
